Car Care, News, Lubricant Advice
Car engine oil and motorcycle oil have different properties, especially in terms of lubrication and protection of engine components, making car oil unsuitable for motorcycles
1 Different Lubrication Properties :
Motorcycle and car engines have different designs and lubrication requirements. Motorcycle oils are typically designed to handle high RPMs and temperatures, while car oils are formulated to endure heavy loads and protect the engine under more demanding conditions.
2 Different Oil Formulations :
Motorcycle and car oils contain different additives. Motorcycle oils may include friction-reducing additives for clutch protection, but lack the anti-wear, anti-oxidation, and anti-sludge additives required for car engines.
3 Different Lubrication Systems :
Most motorcycle engines use a shared lubrication system for both the engine and the transmission, while car engines have separate lubrication systems for the engine and transmission. Therefore, motorcycle oils are designed to support clutch operation, which is not a concern for car engines.
4 Lower Heat Resistance and Durability :
Motorcycle oils may not withstand the high temperatures and pressures in car engines over long periods of use. Using the wrong oil could lead to engine damage in cars.
